It has been a little to long since I made an update to my on going reading challenge, and I thought it was about time that I rectify that. Just as it has been a while since I updated the challenge, there was a good period of this time that I was not so much focused on reading. Even with this being the case I have managed to get through a number of books in the past month, even though I have been travelling.
For the most part my reading since January has been fairly light on. Between planning and booking my most recent trip which left Australia on the 8th of March, with my return on the 27th of May. Which of course is the other hurdle I faced until recently, but more about that a little later on.
In the past month I have completed five books, which you can find under May on the Book List I am keeping. For whatever reason I seem to have completely discarded my reading goals while travelling for the first two months of the trip.
The Travel Challenge, Resolved
For some reason since I got my iPad, I had not realised the potential benefit to my reading while travelling. While I had previously done some reading while travelling it was really only when I started flying again after my cruise ended that I really begun making use of my iPad.
While there are some problems with reading using an iPad when flying, there are also benefits. The biggest challenge is the large gap at the beginning and end of the flight where you cannot use electronic devices. This to a degree gives time that is somewhat wasted. A problem which you do not have when you are reading a physical paperback book.
The biggest benefit though is that you can have quite a few books with you, and not need to worry about the weight of the books. If you are already carrying an iPad for any other purpose, then putting the books on it for reading are just a added benefit. I have around 50 books on my iPad at this point and it does not change the weight of what I am carrying at all. While I may not be reading all these books at the same time, it does give me good choice which I do not have if I am carrying the physical books with me.
I now hope that I am going to be able to continue my reading in the coming months. I mean what sort of goal is it if I keep leaving two month gaps in the progress. As it stands at my present rate I will not complete 100 books with in the year, however this does not concern me greatly, I will be happy to get through the books as I can.
I would look to work on getting through maybe 4 or 5 books a month going forward. Of course this all depends on what I am doing and other things which become a part of my focus from time to time. In a month where I have more travel I will probably read more, on planes and such. While In a month with a lot of work, I may not read quite as much.
It will happen
“Whatever will be, will be”
I like this quote in relation to this goal, since it is not a hard and fast goal it is something that I am working on and working towards as time permits. I will make it to 100 books at some point, I just don’t want to put a specific dead line on it right now. So keep watching as I will keep updating my progress. If you are looking for some ideas on books to read, just take a look at the book list and you will find that they could be some good choices, to start with.
