When you are thinking about getting starting with a blog there are a couple of things that you may want to ask yourself. For the most part in relation to your writing ability.
One of the biggest considerations of deciding to get started with a blog is if you are going to be able to keep it moving. In other words write interesting content, at regular intervals, that people want to read. However before getting into these points, you need to ask yourself one question. Will you be blogging from a personal or business point of view? This question is not even so much in relation to the type of content but if you are looking to purely share about your life or impart lessons to others as such.
While there can be overlap in the way that you discuss things, for example you might be more into just writing about what happened to your today. Then every so often share something like a recipe or a knitting pattern your found. Or maybe you have a blog where you share information primarily about coffee blends and such. Occasionally you may throw in a post about something you did (maybe it will relate to coffee, maybe not).
So what are the considerations you need to make? Well there are quite a lot, however today I wanted to focus on your ability to write.
- How easy is it for you to write – Your ability to write a post is an important part of having a blog. If you have trouble putting together a few sentences, then going straight into blogging may not be an ideal start. While not wanting to discourage you, the more difficult you find it to put together your writing the more frustration you are going to feel when you really want to write a post but just do not know how to get it done. What i would suggest in this case is find a book or a class for writing or even just spend a bit of time each day trying a little writing, without any pressure or expectation. As with many things the more you do it often the better you get.
- How much can you write – Sort of following on from the previous point, you may find that while you can comfortably write, you may not be able to write a lot. It may come down to you are able to write at most one post a week, unless you really push yourself. If this is the case, dont think you need to post each and every day on a blog. This can only lead to one outcome which is going to be to burn yourself out. You are better off starting with a single post a week, which you are comfortable with, and building up to two and then three posts a week as you feel comfortable.
- Can you keep on topic – Finally you need to consider your topic, or group of topics. If you decide to start a blog about cooking, can you write as often as you start writing within this topic. If you get 2 months down the track are you willing to work a little harder to stay in the topic? Really this comes down to if you start writing about cooking and then a couple of months later start writing about Internet marketing because that is what everyone seems to say they make money with, but intermix it with cooking still it is going to confuse some people.
Keep in mind your target and goal’s when you start out with a blog. There is no reason that anyone should not be able to get started with a blog, it can just sometimes take a little more time and some practice to do so.
