Marketing Tips: Create a need

For some industries there are ways that you can really benefit from creating your own need for your products. Creating a need can happen in a number of different ways. Some of these you will have some control over, while others you will have no control over at all. The biggest question this leaves is how to create a need and what are some needs to take advantage of.

EXISTING NEEDS

  • Solve a problem – Problems exist in a huge number of different area’s, and a lot of people may not know how your product could solve the problem. However if you can find the way and promote the product in this way you are creating a need for your product to solve a particular problem.
  • Your product as an alternative – If you product is suitable for a task however not commonly used for that task then look to promote it in a way to showcase the fulfilling of this need.

CREATE A NEED

  • Create a problem – It is surprising just how many problems people did not know they had until someone came out with a product to solve this unknown problem. Creating a problem that your product solves, can create a need.
  • Create projects – This will work best for base product’s eg craft, or building products. It is giving people something to do which will use your product to complete the project. While experienced customers will not often use them, the new or intermediate users may to build their skills.

Whether you create a need or take advantage of a need people did not know that they had, you can build or extend your market considerably. It often comes down to how you promote your product to create or fulfill an existing need.
