Working on my new site

Well, it is something that i got some inspiration the other day to start working on a new website for my business, Orion Networks. Previously i have spent a lot of time workign on this site, but for the most part it has been trying to make something that will cover just what i need, and often coming up short of what i really want but then i have lost interest in really finishing what i really want.

Well this time i am hoping that it is going to be different, finally i have found a solution to one of my biggest problems, was that the CMS and the Online store were two seperate scripts and i do not have the greatest ability at interlinking two designs to match. Well, finally i have found a combined script that puts Joomla CMS and Virtuecart into the one script using the same template files and all in one admin panel. In reality it is probably the best combination i could have hoped for.

As i have already had some good experience in using Joomla, it doesnt make much difference to add the cart in as well, in reality it makes it probably easier to use because i already know 80% of it. In saying this though the templating system is still quite an unknown for me in Joomla 1.5 and while i can make the basic changes it is still a little mystery to me just what does what. However i am working with it and searching the internet tends to return an answer without to much effort which is good.

Really the content is all there on my exsisting site the biggest thing that i have to work on is the product information which is still not a great problem as Virtuecart actually includes a CSV import which means i can put the product info together in Excel and upload a single file with upto 1000 products at once. This will save a lot of time and hopefully will get me motivated to get all the products in there, as previously attempts to use CSV has failed miserablly, but this time has been working very well.

At the minimum i am aiming for the site to be fully operational with a full range of products by the new year, which with my days off over Christmas should be more then achievable.
