Social Networking & Business

As you may have noticed i have both my Facebook and Myspace profile linked on the left hand side. Primarily i did this to link together my personal pages on the internet. I have found that both Facebook and Myspace have been fairly valuable to me in staying in touch with some of my friends both from high school and from previous places i have worked.

What i have been really thinking about recently though is how could these sites assist me from a business perspective. I tell you i have come across a huge amount of information about using these sites in a business respect and yet i am coming up with still the big question as how useful would they actually be to my business. I see lot of information and a lot of businesses making use of these services, but it comes down to the businesses using these services see to be all online businesses.

The question i am still primarily trying to answer for my own benefit mostly i think is, Do these sites offer any potential benefit to Brick and Mortar businesses on a local level?  While i am sure that there is the potential that Brick and Mortar business could have potentially missed this marketing opportunity altogether it would be nice to see if there was someway to make it useful without a huge amount of effort being put in.
